Double-sided Interhemispheric boards or labyrinths are educational toys designed to train both hemispheres of the brain. As a result of the passage labyrinths at the same time with different hands, improved the interaction and synchronization of the left and right hemispheres of the brain.

Exercise affects the corpus callosum, as a result, perception, long-term memory, hand movement coordination, fine motor skills develop, and the process of reading and writing are facilitated.

Tracing boards provide kinesthetic practice (learning while moving) for pre-writing letter formation and letter practice. The drag and pull created by moving the tracing pens helps build connections for the learner through multisensory practice, which is when we engage at least three of the senses at the same time. When children (or adults) use multiple senses at the same time, we have a higher chance of retaining information long term.

Even before children are ready to learn to write they can start building the fine motor pathways for these skills by copying or tracing shapes and patterns. Forming lines, circles and swirls are all great ways to incorporate some play into building muscle memory for prewriting skills.

Some tips for building these pre-writing skills are to encourage left-to-right movements, beginning lines in a top down motion and drawing swirls in a “curve up loop left” motion. Practice making circles in a counter-clockwise motion.

How to use?
The child using the tracing pen, finger or can use marbles and inserts it at the beginning of the labyrinth, passes the entire labyrinth, first only with his right hand, then with his left hand, and then with both hands at the same time. Both hemispheres of the brain are involved in the work and they are synchronized.

It can also double up as a balance toy, child rolls marbles without hands around the labyrinth holding the board around the edges, as if balancing.

This insert has so many great ways to play, some of our design elements make this a multifunctional learning tool! This specific style encourages both hands to move simultaneously while tracing the patterns.

*This set includes 8 tracing boards (see in product pictures)

This would also make such fun gifts at a birthday party or an event to keep the kids busy or to take home!
